How to use the time card calculator with lunch
Enter each shift and put the unpaid lunch duration in the break field. WorkTimeCheck subtracts lunch before calculating daily hours, weekly hours, decimal hours and optional pay estimates.
An 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM shift with a 60-minute unpaid lunch equals 8 paid hours.
How lunch deductions are calculated
For each day, the calculator first finds the elapsed time between clock-in and clock-out, then subtracts the unpaid lunch or break minutes you enter. An 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM shift spans 9 hours; with a 60-minute unpaid lunch, the paid-time result is 8 hours.
Lunch can be different on every day, so enter the actual unpaid duration rather than assuming the same deduction for the entire week.
Weekly totals and overtime estimate
Daily paid minutes are added into the weekly total. The optional overtime display treats time above 40 hours in the seven-day week as overtime and uses a 1.5× multiplier for its pay estimate. This is an arithmetic estimate only; eligibility and payroll rules can differ.
Frequently asked questions
Is WorkTimeCheck free?
Yes. WorkTimeCheck calculators are free to use and do not require an account.
Are my time entries uploaded?
No. The calculator runs in your browser; WorkTimeCheck does not require you to submit employee time records to use the tool.
Can lunch be different each day?
Yes. Each day has its own break field, so you can enter a different unpaid lunch duration.
Does an unpaid lunch count as hours worked?
Not in this calculator. The break minutes you enter are deducted from elapsed shift time before the daily and weekly totals are calculated.
Can I use a 30-minute or 60-minute lunch?
Yes. Enter the actual unpaid break minutes for each day, whether that is 30, 45, 60 or another duration.
