How to use the clock out time calculator
The clock out time calculator adds your target paid work duration and unpaid break to your clock-in time. It is useful when your starting time changes but you still need to complete a fixed number of paid hours.
Clock in at 8:17 AM, work 8 paid hours and take a 30-minute unpaid break: the calculated clock-out time is 4:47 PM.
How the clock-out calculation works
Your clock-out time is your clock-in time plus the paid time you need to work, plus any unpaid break. For example, 8:00 AM + 8 paid hours + a 30-minute unpaid break = 4:30 PM. Starting at 8:17 AM with the same work target and break gives 4:47 PM.
If the total passes midnight, the calculator wraps the result to the following day. It uses wall-clock arithmetic and does not model daylight-saving or time-zone transitions.
Paid time and unpaid breaks
An unpaid break extends the time between clock-in and clock-out because it does not count toward the paid-hours target. If your break is paid, do not add it as an unpaid break. Use the actual break policy that applies to your schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Is WorkTimeCheck free?
Yes. WorkTimeCheck calculators are free to use and do not require an account.
Are my time entries uploaded?
No. The calculator runs in your browser; WorkTimeCheck does not require you to submit employee time records to use the tool.
Should I include my lunch break?
Include the break when it is unpaid and should not count toward your target paid hours.
What time should I clock out for an 8-hour shift?
Add eight paid hours plus any unpaid break to your clock-in time. For example, starting at 8:00 AM with a 30-minute unpaid break gives a 4:30 PM clock-out time.
Can the clock-out calculation pass midnight?
Yes. If the required work time and break extend past midnight, the displayed clock-out time wraps to the following day.
