How to use the pto time calculator
Enter your available PTO balance, PTO already used, upcoming planned PTO and the number of hours in your normal workday. WorkTimeCheck calculates the remaining hours and converts that balance into equivalent workdays.
Starting with 80 PTO hours, with 16 hours already used and 8 hours planned, leaves 56 hours. At 8 hours per workday, that equals 7 workdays.
How to calculate PTO hours remaining
The basic calculation is PTO balance minus PTO already used minus planned PTO. The result shows how many hours remain from the balance you entered. To express that balance as workdays, divide the remaining hours by your normal hours per workday.
For example, 80 hours minus 16 used hours minus 8 planned hours leaves 56 hours. With an 8-hour workday, 56 ÷ 8 equals 7 workdays.
PTO hours versus PTO days
Converting PTO into days depends on the length of your workday. Forty PTO hours equals 5 days for an 8-hour schedule, but 4 days for a 10-hour schedule. Enter the workday length that applies to you rather than assuming every PTO day equals eight hours.
What this PTO calculator does not determine
PTO policies can include accrual schedules, maximum balances, carryover limits, waiting periods and other conditions. This calculator does not interpret those rules or determine entitlement. It performs arithmetic using the PTO figures you provide, so compare the result with your employer's official records and policy.
